Message from Susan Levin
Hello,
In just a few days we will be at the second annual MediaSpeak Symposium www.speakerservices.com/mediaspeak. Our excellent faculty will be showing our attendees how to get and use PR, how to create a hook or angle that will land them an interview on radio, TV and print media. The caveat of the Symposium is the Pitch Fest where our attendees can try out their two minute pitch to over 25 media folks, get feedback and maybe even get booked! This is a once a year event and it is not taped-there is still room if you can fit it into your schedule.
Are you interested in knowing how to build a visionary business, bring your soul to work, become a visionary leader, connect business and spirit, implement spirit-driven strategies? The theme of my next conference is Visionary Business: Creating Business from the Inside Out www.speakerservices.com/visionarybiz is slated for Feb 1-3. "The key questions for today's managers and leaders," writes Jack Hawley, "are no longer issues of task and structure, but questions of spirit." Not only do we all yearn for spiritually rooted qualities at work, those very qualities-integrity, character, love inspiration, faith, reverence-are key factors in an enterprise's success. James Autry writes "Work can provide the opportunity for spiritual as well as financial growth. If it doesn't then we are wasting too much of our lives on it."
Would you like to see what goes on behind the scenes in creating a 3 camera video demo? Please be my guest for the Video Demo Showcase on Sunday, November 5 in Marina del Rey, CA. We will be shooting between 17-20 folks and I still have room if you want to be shot! Perhaps you might take a look at some streaming video samples http://speakerservices.com/videoprod.html. E-mail me for the directions to the showcase susan@speakerservices.com.

TGIM: Thank God It's Monday - 9/25/06
revshep@usa.net, http://www.visionbuildersinstitute.com
In our Vision Builders Mastermind Teams everyone is required to be manifesting a vision- an ideal experience you want with all your heart and that serves beyond your own life. Our formula for success is simple: keep focused on your vision and do your inner work. I can always tell when someone has lost their way because they are suffering. They report on their suffering instead of objectively reporting events and insights. They speak of loss or fear or being victimized. They blame. They judge. I listen between the lines and can tell they feel powerless. They have forgotten who they are - powerful spiritual beings of genius with infinite inner and outer resources. Staying focused on your vision and doing inner work doesn't guarantee success, and certainly doesn't immunize against challenges, but it does immunize against suffering in the process of vision building. VISION immunizes against suffering because its emotional power dissolves the fears and false beliefs that threaten your success, including any beliefs about success requiring suffering. The INNER WORK of meditation, prayer, visualization, and emotional self-mastery immunizes against suffering because it keeps you aware of whom you are. When you know you are a powerful spiritual being of genius with infinite inner and outer resources you find your strength and power. You develop the success consciousness that enables you to act on new understanding, insights, clarity and guidance about whatever matters. You thrive instead of suffer. Take this free lesson from our Mastermind Teams. If you are suffering for success, stop. Find a vision and commit to it, then cultivate an inner practice that reminds you of the truth - you are a powerful spiritual being of genius with infinite inner and outer resources. Build your vision with joy.
Rev. Margaret Shepherd will be speaking at the Visionary Business Conference www.speakerservices.com/visionarybiz on two topics: Bring Your Soul to Work and Vision Building

SPEECH STRUCTURE
Jack Barnard - jackp.barnard@verizon.net
In 10 minutes the most you can develop well is one point. In twenty-five minutes: two points. In forty-five minutes: three points. For each point apply the five Finger Structure.
The Five Finger Formula:
1) State your point
______________________________________________________
______________________________________________________
2) Tell us the reasoning behind that point
______________________________________________________
______________________________________________________
3) Give us an example to illustrate it (story/anecdote)
______________________________________________________
______________________________________________________
4) If appropriate, create an audience interaction to demonstrate the point (chance for the audience to get involved: exercise, sharing, etc.)
______________________________________________________
______________________________________________________
5) Wrap up the point (tell us what you just told us). Remember that the audience needs things carefully wrapped up to take in your points. Wrap it in a cute little bow: tell us what you just told us in a fascinating way.
Throw in a great opening that grabs us by the senses and points us to the door of your message, add a little humor and maybe some pathos to keeps us interested (both of which are digestaids), end with a closing that summarizes our time together and kisses the opening (please, somebody ask me what I mean by that), and you've got yourself a nifty little talk.
Remember, no matter how long you're speaking - be it one sentence or one hour - know your purpose. What are you after? Selling books? Delivering a message? Getting new clients? Stroking your ego?
Jack Barnard is a presentation and branding coach and media trainer, a true maverick in the business. He has an eclectic and substantive career in the media. In his twenties, he had a daily radio talk show on the ABC station in Kansas City, soon moved over to management, and by the time he was twenty-seven he was president of a 6 station radio chain. Today he works with speakers, authors and entrepreneurs, both one-on-one and in group settings. Jack is the author of We Get Our Cue From You: The Communion Approach to Public Speaking and three CDs: The Soul of Speaking, Mesmerize Your Audience and Storytelling. www.speakerservices.com/about.html

Send Out Ships to Bring Home the Zillions
From Zero to Zillionaire, Chellie Campbell, chellie@chellie.com www.chellie.com
You can't just wish for money-you have to do something to make money. The merchants in London in the nineteenth century built grand, tall-masted sailing ships. They would hire a crew and provision the ships for the long sea voyage. Once the ship had sailed, the merchant could do nothing more but wait and hope for that future day when the 4ship would return, sailing into London harbor laden with treasure. On that day, the young messenger boys would shout the news, "Your ship has come in!" And that's where the expression "waiting for my ship to come in," comes from. But you can't wait for your ship to come in if you haven't sent any out! Are you a merchant, crew or passenger?
Send Out Ships to Bring Home the Zillions
You can't just wish for money-you have to do something to make money. Thinking positive is great, but chanting, "Ohmmmm, I'm-making-lots-of-money-ohmmmm..." isn't going to put money in your bank account. Setting goals is great, but it's getting goals that counts. And gets you money to count. At the Church of Religious Science, they say "Treat-and move your feet". Or pray, but row to shore. Instead of telling people to take action steps to achieve their goals, I say to "send out ships."
Lloyds of London is a 1936 film starring Tyrone Power and Freddie Bartholomew and is the story of the merchants in London in the nineteenth century, who built grand, tall-masted sailing ships. They would spend many months, sometimes years, building them. Then, whenever a ship was finally finished, the merchants would hire a crew, and provision the ships for the long sea voyage. It was an exciting day when the ship would weigh anchor, hoist her sails, and sail out of London harbor, on her way to trade for precious cargo - gold, jewels, silks, and spices - in the East Indies and other foreign ports. The trip would take many months, often years.
There were no communications lines open in those days: No ship-to-shore radio, no telegraph, no internet, no cell phones. Once the ship had sailed, the merchant could do nothing more but wait and hope for that future day when the ship would return, sailing into London harbor laden with treasure. On that day, the young messenger boys like Freddie Bartholomew played in the film would run from the docks to the merchant's offices, shouting the news, "Your ship has come in!" And that's where the expression "waiting for my ship to come in," comes from.
But you can't wait for your ship to come in if you haven't sent any out! If you haven't built ships, hired crews and launched them, waiting for your ship is going to be a very long wait. And you will probably starve to death at the dock while you're waiting. Then you'll be moaning, "Why does this always happen to me? Everyone else's ships come in but mine. Why don't I ever have any ships come in? That's the story of my life."
Sound familiar? Do you know anyone who talks like that? If you expect your fortune to come sailing in on the next tide, you had better get busy and send out some ships. Build ships! Hire crews! Chart the route! Lift the sails! Go sailing!
Are You a Merchant, Crew, or Passenger?
If you work for yourself, are an independent contractor, or own a small business, you are the merchant who builds the ships. If you are employed working in someone else's business or are the stay-at-home spouse who contributes support to the worker in the family, you are their crew. If you aren't working or paying your way in some fashion, you are a passenger - perhaps even a stowaway. Pirates are those who steal other people's ships. You need to honestly determine which of these you are, and which are the people around you. If you figure out who's who in your relationships-at home and at work - you will avoid a lot of frustration, hurt, anger, and poverty.
Every Merchant Needs a Crew
Several years ago, I was helping a young couple figure out their financial goals. One of them was clearly a merchant. Sally was very successful in her own business, and was making most of the family income. Todd, her husband had a business also, but he didn't get work very often. He said what he really wanted was to be an artist-but he wasn't doing much to make that happen, either. Sally wanted to help her husband become more successful so that they could move up the food chain. She was frustrated that he wasn't enthusiastic about working.
As I talked with them, it soon became apparent that their goals were very different. Her husband really didn't care about having more money, bigger houses, or better stuff. He was happy just the way things were. And if things didn't go well and they didn't have as much money, he'd happily adjust to a lower standard of living. That was fine with him. His goal was freedom and not having to work.
After listening to them both talk about their goals and desires, I turned to Sally and said, "I see the problem. You are treating him as though he were a merchant. But he's not a merchant. He is unwilling to send out any ships to make either of his goals happen. He doesn't want to work at this business he has, or even at the one he says he wishes he had. He's not crew, either, because he's not helping you with yours. He's a passenger."
Sally was depressed about that at first. She had to give up her dream that Todd would catch fire and enjoy working in a business. He wasn't a merchant like she was, and didn't want to be one. All her efforts to cajole, bribe, threaten, inspire or otherwise motivate him to merchant status were doomed to failure.
After recovering from her disappointment, instead of trying to get him to be what he wasn't, she took a good look at what he was. Together they looked for a crew position that would suit him. What he was really good at, and loved doing, was renovating houses. So they bought a fixer house and he happily worked on improvements that increased the value of the property. He found the work he enjoyed so that it didn't feel like work. He also started helping her more often with her work. Although he didn't have the makings of a merchant, he became a tremendously supportive hard-working crew member: First Mate!
Chellie Campbell will be speaking at the Visionary Business Conference www.speakerservices.com/visionarybiz on The Wealthy Spirit: Creating a Life While Creating a Living.
