Message from Susan Levin
Happy New Year,
As you may have noticed my theme the last five or six months has been focused on the Visionary Business Conference: Creating Business from the Inside Out- http://www.speakerservices.com/visionarybiz - February 1, 2 & 3 in Los Angeles. Will you be there? Reminder save $100 by signing up by January 15. The last complimentary teleclass with the faculty of the conference is scheduled for next Tuesday, January 9, for details see http://speakerservices.com/teleclasses/detail/72.
Jamie Walters one of the speakers at the conference advises us in her article, The foundation of "conscious enterprise" is knowing why you're doing what you're doing in your life, livelihood and/or business, and also have a very clear idea of how you want to do it. This goes deeper than simply having a plan and working it, or identifying a goal and working to achieve it. That's pretty typical. What distinguishes a conscious enterprise (or a conscious enterpriser) is a clear, vibrant vision that connects deeply with one's truest priorities and values, and a way of going about one's business or everywhere routine in a way that reflects those priorities and values in action. Read the rest below.

Summary of Training Magazine's 2006 U.S. Training Industry Report
Most organizations reported healthy increases in their training budgets, with an average budget increase of 7 percent over last year. Today, companies are spending $1,273 per learner on training, including staff salaries. These higher budgets have driven the growth of overall training industry expenditures. U.S. organizations spent a total of $55.8 billion on training (including staff salaries) this year, with $15.8 billion earmarked for external learning products and services. These numbers are up from last year's figures, which showed $51.1 billion in total industry spending and $13.5 billion in spending on products and services.

Article: Visionary Solo/SOHOpreneurs - Why (and how) you're doing what you're doing
Jamie Walters, http://www.ivysea.com
The foundation of "conscious enterprise" is knowing why you're doing what you're doing in your life, livelihood and/or business, and also have a very clear idea of how you want to do it.
While no one is perfect, a conscious enterpriser makes it his or her daily practice to "walk the talk" and strives to be more and more skillful. This has at least two important benefits: more meaning, and clear distinctions between your business and 'business as usual'. A conscious enterpriser's level of commitment and skillfulness is noticed by others, and has a positive, constructive effect rather than a destructive one.
Which do you think people might want more of?
Being a conscious enterpriser has other benefits as well. With a clear vision that's heart-centered and aligned with deeper, truer priorities and values, a conscious enterpriser is more likely to feel energized by a sense of purpose and meaning -- even when circumstances get challenging -- and experiences a sense of deeper satisfaction at creating and attracting achievements or circumstances that are aligned with his or her vision (rather than someone else's expectations).
Reflection and Action Point
As you near the end of one year and the start of another, schedule a segment of time to check in about how your highest priorities and deepest values might take shape in your life, livelihood and business in the coming year.
How might that affect how you do business, and how you reach out through authentic, integrity centered marketing efforts?

Write a Short Book to Make your Speaking Business Thrive
Judy Cullins, judy@bookcoaching.com
Have you thought about writing a book, but wondered about the effort involved and the results you would get from it? Monetizing your speaking business with a book will benefit you in big ways.
If you are now earning your income from keynotes, workshops, training and seminars, selling products at the back of the room, or selling books from your web site, know that when you write a short book, even a printable eBook under 100 pages, you'll get these benefits. You'll...
- Boost your credibility as a savvy expert in your field.
- Boost your reputation by being a respected and trusted author.
- Energize yourself that you are turning your dream of being an author into a reality.
- Increase your income by selling books at talks and at your web site.
- Discover a much easier way, online to sell your print or eBooks.
- Boost your self-esteem by sharing your unique message.
- Help your audiences to a better life with take home how tos.
Not Sure What Kind of Book to Write?
Most speakers think they must go traditional with a print book through a traditional publishing route. That's what your bookcoach did twenty years ago. With too few results for all the work it took. Instead, think a short print or printable eBook, one that you can finish in a month or so. One you can offer on your own web site.
You can get your book out now, not wait two years. Know that publishers do no promotion, so with you in charge, you can get sales the minute you finish your book. With internet marketing added, you receive a consistent, ongoing increased stream of income for as long as you market. With your credibility raised, you can now get more bookings.
Get the Best From Two Worlds
With the internet going strong, many in your audience will want a downloadable, printable eBook. And, you the author, have no printing bills, no distribution problems, and you make all the profits. But, you want some copies for the back of the room sales. So, write your short (50 pages to 100 pages) print and eBook at the same time using the same Microsoft Word files.
Speakers need to know that business people's reading hours are down from 123 hours per year in 1999, to 109 hours in 2001, and in 2006--the figure is even lower. Your audience, like you, want to read short how-to books.
How to Create Endless Products
Speakers have the edge over other businesses because you already have past talks, cassettes, or articles you've already written. Just dust them off with a new angle for each audience.
You also give seminars, teleseminars, ecourses that can become short books. These built in resources create even more products. Each time you give a teleseminar, record it on an MP3 and offer it for sale. This no money investment makes you even more profits.
If you Don't Write your Book?
Not much will happen to make you stand out from the crowd. Your business will take much longer to build to big success. And, you won't have all the fun by connecting with your audience as much.
Fulfill your Book Dream-Get Started with a Little Help
- Get started--just write down all the topics and questions your book can answer.
- Get organized--Create a book folder and files.
- Practice one High Level Activity each day for your book.
- Write about what you know--you are the expert.
- Solve your audience's problem or challenge.
- Use what you already have written-ie speeches, seminars.
- Write down your one preferred audience before you write the book. Then, it will engage your readers all the way.
- Overcome the fear that your writing won't be great. Get help from others, especially a coach.
It's funny, but once you get started with one book, you won't be able to stop yourself from writing others. The point is to just begin. Watch your speaking business thrive!
