A
Message from Susan Levin
Greetings,
Wow it’s almost June. What happened to May? Well we had the second annual Speakers Summit the beginning of May and we got rave reviews. I had many requests following the Speakers’ Summit for the audio recordings (we did not record) which inspired me to create the Speakers’ Summit as a TelecConference (on the telephone). Here’s how it works: The week of June 18-22 you can participate in 10 live phone sessions with our experts 2 times a day, followed by Q & A, downloadable MP3’s plus handouts and some special report for only $199. Even if you can’t make all the sessions you still get the recordings to listen to at your leisure. Learn more/ register: http://speakerservices.com/teleclasses/detail/78 .
The sense of community was flying high during the Summit–people bonded and many connections were made. We cheered each other on and were sad when it was over. I polled the group and asked if they would be interested in a Virtual Speakers’ Community so we could stay connected and continue to learn from experts on how to grow our speaking businesses. The answer was absolutely YES. When can we start? That’s how Susan Levin’s, Speakers’ Community was birthed. I am passionate about my service and committed to supporting professionals in growing their businesses through speaking. Stay tuned for the unveiling of the Speakers’ Community Membership Site in mid summer and all the benefits that the members our will receive. Psst: By the way, you all can try it out for 30 days for FREE. Allow me to give you wings.
Would you like to see some of the videos of the hot seats we did at the Summit? They are scattered around at the following links. Our video gal, Jen sent them to me as an imeg4 and I uploaded them to audio acrobat and then they were streamed and published onto my website in no time. Take a look at the following links: http://www.speakerservices.com/videoprod.html - scroll down to the bottom of the page and then http://www.speakerservices.com/speakerssummit07/hot-seats.html, Darlene Basch- http://www.speakerservices.com/speakers/detail/221 and Julie Tong- http://www.speakerservices.com/speakers/detail/270.
You could do this too and you don’t have to wait till next May. September 15 & 16 we are offering the BizSpeak and Video Workshop (one camera shoot) in LA. The first day we will teach you how to say what you do in 2 or 3 minutes and the next day we will shot you. It is limited to 20 people and only $497. See details http://www.speakerservices.com/videoprod.html#bizspeak . I believe that every professional should have a short video presence on their website. I know I would be more likely to hire an attorney, accountant, financial planner, fitness trainer, coach or a dentist if I could see a short video of them. How about you?
July 9-12 I will be an exhibitor at the National Speakers Association Convention www.nsaspeaker.org in San Diego. If you are attending please make sure to stop by and say hello to me and Jack Barnard our master branding/presentation trainer.
Are you serious about jumping to the next level of your speaking then the Speakers’ Bootcamp is for you. August 1-5 in Los Angeles, 12 hours a day for 5 days for $1,750 that’s $29 an hour. Think about it-if you paid a coach $200-$250 an hour and you worked for 60 hours it would cost you between $10,000-$15,000. We only take 20 people and I have 8 slots open and they will disappear. If you want to play The Game go to http://www.speakerservices.com/services/thegame.html . Grab your spot now.
Mark your calendars for the 3rd annual MediaSpeak Symposium, http://www.speakerservices.com/mediaspeak07 - October 11,12 & 13. Take advantage of the early registration fee. Chellie Campbell, Speaker & author of The Wealthy Spirit and Zero to Zillionaire said, The MediaSpeak Symposium was a fabulous training on how to approach the media and speak your message in a way that is arresting and newsworthy. For any professional who wants to be seen and heard by millions, this is an event not to be missed!

Eight options in publishing your book
- John Kremer, www.bookmarket.com
1. Self-publishing. Getting your own printer, publishing your book, and marketing it. That's how I've published six editions of 1001 Ways to
Market Your Books.
2. Set up your own publishing company. For example, my company: Open Horizons.
3. Print-on-demand printer. You self-publish but you use a POD printer to produce copies 1 to 100 copies at a time. For example, Lightning
Source or AdiBooks.
4. Print-on-demand publisher. You pay a POD publisher to publish your book. For example, iUniverse, Lulu, Xlibris, Infinity Publishing, etc. For example, Infinity publishes John Kremer's Self-Publishing Hall of Fame (also available as an ebook download from BookMarket.com).
5. Sell rights to a small publisher and let them publish and promote your book. For example, New World Library, Santa Monica Press, etc. I sold the rights to High-Impact Marketing on a Low-Impact Budget to Prima Publishing (now part of Random House).
6. Sell rights to a large publisher and let them publish and promote your book. For example, Simon & Schuster, Random House, etc. I sold rights to The Complete Direct Marketing Sourcebook to John Wiley.
7. Self-publish your book only as an e-book. For example, my new ebook on distribution: Book Marketing 105: Choosing a Book Distribution System — This vital mini-guide includes criteria for deciding how you will distribute your books. Also includes complete information on 30 book distributors, 4 library distributors, 89 book publishers who also distribute for other publishers, 3 sales representatives to the chains, 27 bookstore wholesalers, 34 library wholesalers, and 23 Spanish-language wholesalers. Plus a sample book distribution contract. Ebook download, $30.00.
8. Blog your book. Rather than publishing your book on paper, you could simply blog it using a free or paid online blogging service. I'll be doing several books like this in the coming months.
I could easily write a book on these seven options. In fact, if I were to write the book, I'm sure I'd come up with three or four more options.

Podcasting Just Might Be the Tool to Revolutionize Education
By Sharon Housley
Schools all over the country have flocked to podcasting as a new medium to assist the teaching profession. Professors are using podcasts to instruct students and get their messages out. Podcasting is not restricted to one educational sector, professors at prestige's colleges from Bentley to Purdue have flocked to this medium.
A growing number of professors are recording their lectures, the term coursecasting has been adopted in academia. Podcast lectures are used as study tools, and are available for students who might have missed class. Some podcasts are password restricted to students who are enrolled in that specific class. While other institution's publicly post their podcasts and offer non-enrolled students insight into the class material.
Why has podcasting been embraced by the educational field? The adoption of RSS is likely in part due to the demographic higher-education attraction. Most college students are young and well educated. Because of their age the students have embraced technology, they have always had technology as a component to their life. This demographic have grown up with computers their entire lives, technology has always been an integral tool in their education.
Bentley initially adopted podcasting in the course IT 101, to introduce students to the concepts of technology as they relate to business, ethics and social responsibility, global commerce and culture. Students are not only required to listen to podcasts, but also to produce their own podcasts. Bentley, understanding the importance, influence and power of technology felt that students would benefit by obtaining a complete and thorough understanding of the podcasting medium.
Certain subject material lends itself to podcasting more than others, for example: foreign language lessons are ideal for podcasts because students can listen to accents, intonations, and speech patterns. Students listening to foreign language podcasts are able to hear and experience the language outside of the classroom.
Some educators are using videocasts to demonstrate science labs and experiments. The portability of the videocasts make it easier for students to review labs, when critically analyzing their data.
Educators are known for their philanthropy and desire to share their knowledge. Technology and podcasting as a communication medium have made it easier for educators to collaborate, share and provide material in a portable format. Podcasting allows professors to extend their reach outside the classroom. With the hectic pace today's students keep between classes, commuting and employment, podcasts fit, allowing students to maximize their commute and use their time efficiently while juggling it all. Just as home computers have become an integral tool in the educational field, todays hectic lifestyles make the need for educational podcasts and videocasts only more evident.

How To Master The Art Of Public Speaking
By Christopher Byrnes
A promising public speaker often encounters risk before he or she learns how to get it right, as in almost anything we do in life that we strive to be good at. After all, you encountered risk when you learned to walk, and ride a bike. If you are going to master the art of public speaking, you are going to be required to apply some effort in the initial stages, and run the risk associated with learning anything. Following are some key ways in which you can become more proficient public speaker.
• Be determined in your pursuit to be an outstanding public speaker. Show excellence through your experiences, study, and how you tailor your material to match your audience.
• Be patient in your goal to succeed. Persistence is a must, if you are going to overcome the obstacles on the way to excellence. There is no such thing as overnight success in public speaking. Attend training about effective speaking; or ask someone who has mastered the art of public speaking.
• Develop an oozing passion for your topic. Your audience will not care to listen to you if you demonstrate anything less than passion about your public speaking topic. Jot down the topics that you love. Then, choose two or three that you can expound into top-notch, crowd-pulling presentations.
• Be sincere and sensitive towards your audience. Share some of your unfavorable experiences involving your topic, if applicable. This way your audience perceives you as a real person and they can relate to you and your subject.
• Relate to your audience promptly, and grab their attention. Avoid offensive remarks or jokes. State a funny story that is applicable to your subject if applicable; cite a quotation or an anecdote to keep their attention. Remember that you only have half a minute to connect with your audience. Use it wisely.
• Prepare adequately. Research your topic completely and then some. Do not throw away old materials that you have used, because you mat need them for new presentations. Organize your material logically and use supporting metaphors or analogies to solidify the message you wish to convey.
• Reinforce your key points with stories that people relate to. Learning to be a proficient storyteller is part of the process of learning to be an excellent public speaker.
• Communicate in ways that will help people learn. In a recent study, 80% of people learn by visual stimulation and only 20% actually learn by listening to the lecture. So do not underestimate the use of visual props and visual aids. Find other ways or tools that can help you achieve 100% of your audience's attention.
• Practice. Memorizing your speech is not enough by any means. Try to practice in front of a mirror or better still, use the vast and cheap technology available to anyone these days and video yourself. Ask your friends to review your speech in person, or on video, and take note of their feedback.
• Possess a genuine appreciation in what you do. Remember that not all people have the chance and the courage to speak in front of a large crowd. It is a privilege that is coupled with your responsibility to entertain, educate and persuade your audience. Public speaking is an art that requires a tremendous amount of skill.
Apply the above effective public speaking habits to your development and you'll see immediate improvements in your ability to speak in public.
Discover how you, too, can become a confident and powerful public speaker, faster and more easily than you ever thought possible.
